Ray, a young, red furry dragon wakes, whistling catching his sensitive ears. The rest of his family mush have already headed out for the day's hunt. Ray has never been a morning dragon, he has always enjoyed a sleep-in a little too much. So the whistling must be very unique to arouse him like it has.

Outside of his cave is human teenage, walking through the forest near where the cave is. It's not unusual to find a human in these parts, there is a city not far from the forest, constantly expanding closer to his family's home. He has blond hair and blue eyes, plain clothing and an oversized backpack, probably filled with camping equipment. This has become pretty normal for Ray, he's seen several camp sights and dozens of campers in the forest, but so far remained undetected.

The human continues to walk in the forest, quiet clicks from a camera are heard above his whistles. Ray follows, remaining distant and cautious, not wanting to startle the human. His red fur stands out greatly, so he needs to stay low and quiet to not be found. As Ray gets closer to the human, he notices something, white cords hanging from the teenagers ears, the cords combine and disappear into his pants. The furry dragon is confused as to what it is and what it does, but assumes that with it blocking the humans ears, it would have to affect his hearing.

Ray continues stalking him until the human stops, takes off his backpack and begins unpacking it. He pulls out a tarp like item, several metal pegs and metal sticks, rope, a small axe and a hammer. Ray watcher the human as he assembles the items together, threading the metal sticks and rope through a hole in the tarp to make a firm roof. He threads more metal sticks and attaches them to the metal pegs before hammering it into the ground. With all four corners threaded and hammered, the structure stands up by itself.

The human takes his bag and any leftover items in an opening in the tarp, assuming that it's the door. He soon returns back out, the axe in hand, before approaching Ray while continuing his whistle. The dragon hesitates, not sure whether to run or hide and ends up just standing there when the human finally sees him. Ray has no choice but to pounce now, he can't let the human escape and tell people of his or his family's existence. So with that thought passing through, Ray jumps on the shocked human. The axe falls from the human's hand as he plummets toward the ground.

Ray looks at the now struggling human, unsure what to do with him. He is short with blond hair, probably in his mid teens, still very young, just like the red furry dragon who is pinning him down. Ray knows what he must do, he must kill the human, he can't risk his family's safety. With a solum sigh Ray finally speaks.

"I'm sorry human, It's not in my nature to do this, but I need to protect my family. Please understand..." He says, trailing off, trying to think of any other way to do this.

"No! Please! Don't hurt me, I haven't done anything wrong!" The human pleads.

"I know, that's what makes this so hard." Ray explains with another sigh before extending a claw and placing it on the humans chest, hesitating once again.

"Please! Don't! Please don't hurt me..." The human cries out, making the dragon curse itself.

He can't do it, but he can't let him go either. Ray gets an idea to help him think, if he ends up freeing the human then it will scar him, if he ends up killing the human, it will just make Ray appear more cruel. The dragon hasn't had breakfast yet either, even though it's probably lunch time, only adding to his hunger as he thinks about it. Ray pins the human further, hoping to weaken him before eating and it starts to work, the human's struggles get weaker. He continues to ignore all the human's pleas for freedom, knowing that it will only distract him.

Eventually Ray's attention changes to 'how' exactly will he eat him. He looks up and down the human's body and comes up with two plans to choose from. Either eating him feet first, which will limit his struggles, but he will likely scream. Or eating him head first, muffling his voice, but allowing him to flail around a lot more. The dragon picks the human up and quickly feeds his feet and lower legs into his maw, deciding that if he is quick, he can consume the human without it screaming.

Ray instantly begins to salivate as the humans soft, flavorsome flesh puts him in an almost dreamy state of bliss. The saltiness of his body, the small squirms that massage the dragon's tongue and the amplifying effect of his fear that improves his flavors. Ray can't remember ever having human before and begins to ponder hard about it as he sucks in the human's upper legs and waist into his maw. The furry dragon's teeth press up against the human's chest, clamping softly, making sure not to hurt him.

The human continues to fight frantically, although now beginning to slow and weaken as the dragon easily overpowers him. Ray sucks the rest of the human's body into his maw, tasting and enjoying his flavours and now rapidly fading struggles. It's not long before Ray decides that the human is lubricated enough to swallow with ease. He knows that he could just end it all, just swallowing the human into his stomach and sleeping while he digests, but he can't. Unlike any other creature, human's are intelligent, they express emotion just like his own kind and for that, he will try to not kill him.

Returning back to reality, Ray swallows strongly, sending a squirming bulge down the divergent path to his storage pouch. From within, he can feel the human beat frantically on the flesh encasing him. Ray let's out a sigh, seeing a visual reminder of the creature his just consumed, a small bulge just above his actual stomach, it's movements slowing. The furry dragon cannot comprehend what suffering the human is going through, but he just hopes that he doesn't make the human suffer further.

Ray stares at the human bulge, poking and prodding it to see if it's okay, before leaning in and giving an affectionate nuzzle. He feels the human stop struggling, probably fallen asleep and Ray let's out another sigh, finally he can think things through carefully.

"What am I suppose to do? There's going to be people searching for this guy...!" Ray yells to himself, "Aww, this is all my fault, I should have just stayed away from them like I was told!" Ray continues, banging his head against a tree trunk. "Mum should know what to do, but she will be mad... But I have to tell her." The red furry dragon confirms to himself before quickly rushing home.

"Mum! Mum are you here? I need to tell you something." Ray yells as he enters the cave.

"What's wrong." A female voice snarls before revealing itself from the shadows, dark, almost blood red fur, sparkling fangs showing from her maw, it's his nasty sister, Zarah, the oldest of all their parent's children.

"Nothing, I am looking for mum." Ray answers.

"Well she's not here 'runt', so tell me!" She commands, walking up to and standing over Ray in an intimidating pose.

Zarah is almost fully grown and twice Ray's size. She is close to moving out and finding her own cave to live in. The two have never gotten along well and Zarah has hurt Ray several times before. So Ray knows not to get on her bad side, which is practically all the time.

"No, just tell me where mum is." Ray pleads, which prompts Zarah to roll her eyes at him.

"She will be back later, but since you're looking for her, you can stay here and guard the cave while I go out." Zarah answers, walking past Ray.

"Where are you going?" Ray asks curiously.

"None of your business!" Zarah says, pinning Ray to the ground and growling at him.

"Okay! Okay! I'm sorry!" Ray yells, squirming to break free.

"Good!" Zarah says, lifting her paw off of Ray and flying away.

Ray gets up, slightly dazed and wanders into the place where his sister was hiding, he sits down and watches the entrance. The furry dragon sits there for only a few seconds before feeling the human beating on the walls of his storage pouch. Ray nuzzles the human within as best he can to try and calm it down. The dragon hears a muffled voice from within and leans closer to hear it more clearly.

"Please... Let me out... I don't want to die... Please..." The muffled human voice pleads before bursting into tears.

Ray hears the human's crying and it makes his heart break. He never wanted to hurt the little human, Ray has always been kind, compassionate and caring. It hurts the red furry dragon to hear the sadness he is causing.

"Human, please don't be sad, you are safe in there." Ray says, feeling depressed for what he has done.

"Please... I am scared... I don't want to die... Just let me out..." The human says, continuing to plead for freedom.

"Fine, how about this, I'll let you out 'if', you don't be sad anymore and you don't run away." Ray offers, hoping that the human will listen.

"I promise! I swear on my life! Please let me out now!" The human explodes in a spurt of energy.

With the human's word, Ray begins to regurgitate him, pulling him up back into his maw, giving the human a quick taste before opening up and dropping him into a paw. He lowers the paw to the ground and let's the human get up himself. The blond haired teen look up at the dragon with his blue eyes, unsure whether to climb off the paw or not. Ray gives the human an ushering nudge with a claw to help him off.

"You are the strangest dragon I've ever met." The human says, confusing Ray slightly.

"You've met other dragons?" Ray asks, bewildered by the humans words.

"Umm, yeah? I come from the city Nogard, not far south from here." The human explains, but still not answering Ray's question.

"What does that have to do with my question?" Ray says, only adding to his confusion further.

"Nogard, the city of dragons? Hello? How could you have never heard of it, like you are a dragon!" The human says, having a little laugh at his captor's lack of knowledge.

"Nogard? City of dragons? So you live with dragons there?" Ray asks, beginning to understand what the human is saying.

"Umm yes... We even changed the city's name a few years ago, it is dragon backwards." The human answers.

"Speaking of names, what's yours?" Ray asks politely.

"Jessie, what about you?" The human replies.

"My name is Ray." The red furry dragon answers.

"Okay, Ray..." Jessie says, trailing off in thought.

"Hey Jessie, is it normal for dragons to go to your city?" Ray asks enthusiastically.

"Yes, several are residents in fact." Jessie answers.

"Well, umm, would you mind taking me with you, I would love to see it?" Ray asks very timidly, feeling slightly embarrassed about his question.

"Well sure, as long as you don't eat anyone." Jessie says seriously.

"Great! Let's go!" Ray says, picking Jessie up and placing him on his back. "Hold on tight!" The furry dragon commands before leaping into the air once he feels a tug on his fur.

"Wow, this is amazing!" Jessie yells, his bright blue eyes wide with excitement, looking down at the ground below.

"This is nothing!" Ray says smugly, diving toward the ground and pulling up at the last second. He then pulls up back to his flying height, slowing down before diving toward the ground again. This time he pulls up early, continuing to lean back and does a whole back-flip

"Okay, okay! Stop please!" Jessie says, laughing and screaming at the same time.

"So this is the city... I've never been this close to it..." Ray says cautiously.

"Yeah? How come?" Jessie asks curiously.

"Because we're meant to stay hidden so humans don't attack us, but if you live together then we don't have to hide, right?" Ray asks, hoping for some kind of assurance.

"We have lived with dragons for years now, we all, well most of us are treated as equals. Some people still aren't happy with the idea, but that's just a small majority." Jessie says.

"I should land now..." Ray says nervously, still close to the edge of the city.

"Why, you won't be attacked, you're safe here?" Jessie assures as Ray touches ground.

"No, I think it would be best to just walk, so where should I go?" Ray says timidly, wondering if this is really a good idea.

"Do you want to meet one of the resident dragons?" Jessie asks, wracking his mind as to what Ray would like to see.

"Sure!" Ray answers enthusiastically.

"Okay, good, because where close, turn right at the street up ahead." Jessie explains.

"Okay." Ray answers, walking on the road toward the next street.

"Can you guess which house it is?" Jessie says as they enter the street, a slight chuckle in his voice.

"It is the big one, right?" Ray asks, looking at a huge giant sized building, towering over it's neighbors.

"Yep, specially made to house their family." Jessie answers as they reach the front door.

"So now what?" Ray asks.

"I'll ring the doorbell." Jessie explains, climbing off Ray's back and walking to a small button and pressing it.

"Ding-Dong." It rings loudly.

"Just a minute!" A male voice booms from behind the door.

"Who is that?" Ray asks, looking to Jessie.

"That is one of the locals, Elgar." Jessie says, walking back to Ray.

"Oh?" Ray answers as the door opens.

"Why hello there Jessie, who is this?" Elgar questions, looking down at Ray.

Elgar is huge, standing almost three times Ray's height, his golden scales glisten brightly in the sun. Two backward pointing horns sit atop his head and his wings are a dull golden-brown by comparison. He smiles down on Ray, his sharp white teeth shine as well.

"This is Ray, he comes from the forest in the north." Jessie answers.

"From the forest? Why do you live in there for?" Elgar asks.

"I live there because it's safe, it's where my family lives." Ray answers nervously.

"But here is safe? And it is a lot better place to live." Elgar says, slightly confused.

"Not what I've been told..." Ray says, trailing off, thinking about what he has been told.

"Your parents must have gone into hiding to keep you safe... But the world does leave you behind if you do that. Humans are a lot kinder now, we work together." Elgar says assuringly.

"I guess you're right, but it will be hard to convince my parents. They wouldn't be happy to know that I've been here." Ray answers.

"I'll convince them then, next time you visit, I'll come with you and meet your parents. They will listen to me, I might even bring a human friend and you bring Jessie here, to help convince them." Elgar explains.

"That sounds like a wonderful idea." Ray coos, looking back down at Jessie who has been silent this entire time.

"Good, now if you will excuse me, I have things I need to do." Elgar says.

"Okay, bye!" Jessie and Ray both say as Elgar closes the door and continues what he was doing.

"Hey, let's do a fly over of the city, I would really like to see it from above!" Jessie exclaims, already half way up Ray's back.

"Sure, it will be fun." Ray says as Jessie gets into position and he takes off.

The pair spend the next hour flying around the city. Jessie points out all the features and landmarks around the city. Ray flies as directed, eagerly listening to every bit of information Jessie has to offer. They continue for over an hour before every feature of the city has been described.

"That's everything really." Jessie says.

"Great, thank you for showing me all this." Ray say sincerely.

"You're welcome." Jessie says with a mile chuckle.

"Do you want to see my home before I take you back to your camp?" Ray says eagerly.

"The place you spat me out, right?" Jessie confirms.

"Yeah, but you don't have to worry, you will be safe, I promise." Ray assures, a smile across his maw.

"Good, I would love a tour." Jessie says, having full confidence in Ray. They both remain quiet as Ray approaches the forest and his home.

"Where almost here." Ray says as he begins to descend.

"Cool, I can't wait to explore your home." Jessie says almost smugly.

Ray lands right outside his family's cave and begins to walk inside. Without warning Ray is tackled by his sister Zarah, who was hiding in the shadows. Jessie is knocked off of Ray's back and he tumbles to the ground as the two furry dragons fight. Ray is easily overpowered by his older sister who bites and scratches relentlessly. It takes Jessie trying to break them apart before Zarah stops attacking.

"Stop! Leave him alone!" Jessie yells, causing Zarah to stop and focus on the young human before her.

"YOU BROUGHT A HUMAN HERE!" Zarah yells before throwing her younger sibling to the side. She bolts after Jessie who tries to run, but is quickly tackled by Zarah. "You're going to wish you didn't say a word, human!" She says sinisterly, placing enough pressure that it is hurting him.

"Leave, him alone..." Ray pleads.

"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!" A female voice bellows from outside the cave.

The creatures footsteps can be heard from inside and even Zarah's eyes widen with fear hearing the voice. She picks up Jessie, scoffs him in her maw and swallows quickly, sending him into her real stomach. Ray's eyes go wide and he goes hysterical seeing this.

"Spit him up now! He is my friend!" Ray yells.

"Shut it runt, I am doing you a favor!" Zarah snarls as the owner of the voice finally reveals itself.

"Mum! Zarah ate my friend! Tell her to spit him out!" Ray pleads, about to burst out in tears.

"He brought a human here, what was I suppose to do." Zarah say, condescending in her tone.

"Is it true, did you bring a human here?" Ray's mother asks softly.

"Yes, but humans are different, he took me to their city, I met another dragon there!" Ray says, continuing to plead.

"You went to the city?! You know you're not allowed to do that!" Ray's mother says angrily.

"Yes, but I should be punished for that, not him!" Ray says, looking over at Zarah's belly and seeing movement inside.

"When did you go to his city?" Ray's mother asks nervously, afraid that people may be coming.

"Just not long ago, we only just got back..." Ray says, his mind going berserk as his friend is probably being digested away.

"Yeah, while he should have been here guarding the cave." Zarah interjects, trying to get Ray in more trouble.

"Excuse me? But didn't your father and I tell you to guard the cave. Did you sneak out again!" The mother dragon snarls.

"No, I, just went out for a while, it's okay!" Zarah tries to explain.

"Spit out Ray's friend, now!" The mother dragon yells.

With those words, Zarah begins retching and gaging before finally spitting Jessie out on the ground. Ray rushes up to him, as he remains motionless on the ground. Jessie's body is suffering burns and his clothes are worn through in large chunks. The mother dragon ushers Zarah away and follows her, leaving Jessie and Ray alone.

"I'm so sorry, please, please be okay." Ray pleads, choking back tears.

"It burns, Ray help..." Jessie says, groaning in pain.

"I'll lick the acids off you, don't worry, you will be okay." Ray says before beginning to lick the foul tasting acids off of his friend.

"Thank, you..." Jessie says before going limp and passing out.

"Don't die, please don't die..." Ray says quietly as he begins to cry softly.

He picks Jessie up and licks his face, but the unconscious human shows no response. Ray takes Jessie to his bed, a soft pile of leaves and twigs, before then laying him down and curling around him. He nuzzles the human, but after receiving no response once again, Ray bursts out into tears, hugging the human tightly. His mother wanders up to him and nuzzles her son, before finally speaking.

"I'm sorry about what Zarah did, but don't worry, she won't be bothering you anymore." Ray's mother says.

"What do you mean?" Ray asks, his tears beginning to slow.

"Zarah is leaving, she can look out for herself. I can't undo what she has done, but I hope it makes you feel better." His mother explains.

"Humans aren't bad mum, they aren't." Ray says.

"I believe you son, don't worry..." His mother says softly.

Ray continues to cuddle his human friend, staying with him far after his tears have dried away. Eventually Ray falls asleep, hoping that when he wakes, Jessie will be fine.

The next morning comes with birds chirping their song, Ray opens his eyes and squeezes his human friend. He continues squeezing and squeezing until he realizes that Jessie's not there. Ray gets up and searches frantically for his human friend, but finds him nowhere. He can only assume that Zarah has taken him in a final act of spite against him. Ray slowly waddles back to his bed and flops onto it, before bursting out into tears. After a while his mother walks in and sees him upset.

"What's wrong Ray?" His mother asks.

"Jessie's gone, I think Zarah took him while I slept." Ray says amongst his tears.

"Ray? I'm okay. I jus-" Jessie says from on top of the dragon mother's back before being cut off by Ray.

"JESSIE! You're alive! I was so scared, I thought Zarah took you!" Ray screams with excitement.

"You always sleep in Ray, Jessie and I were both up much earlier. He explained about the dragon you met and he took me to meet him." Ray's mother explains.

"So humans are safe to be around?" Ray asks.

"Yes, but be careful and try not to show them our home... At least until we are accepted fully by these people." His mother says.

"I promise." Ray says softly.

"Good, now I am going to take Jessie to his tent and then take him home." Ray's mother explains walking outside with Jessie on her back.

"I'll come back and visit, hopefully soon!" Jessie yells before disappearing out of sight.

His words put a smile on Ray's face and he returns back to his bed. Ray curls up and relaxes, finally his mind is clear, his friend is safe and his sister won't bother him anymore. With a solum sigh, Ray mumbles to himself.

"It's still early, I guess I can sleep in a 'bit' more." He says before closing his eyes and going back to sleep.
